Berserk Manga To Continue With Kouji Mori Taking Kentaro Miura's Legacy

A great day for Berserk fans out there. The manga will continue to tell the story illustrated by Kentaro Miura.

Since Miura’s death due to acute aortic dissection on May 6, 2021, the manga has been left with a cliffhanger. Now, after one year, his legacy will be continued by his friend and fellow manga artist, Kouji Mori.

Here’s more to follow.

Berserk Manga Set To Return In June 2022

According to the statement from Berserk’s manga publisher Hakusensha, the manga will resume its serialization starting on June 24, 2022.

The story will now be illustrated by Kouji Mori, as he was the only one who was informed of Berserk’s full plot by legendary mangaka Miura.

In the statement, Mori promises Berserk readers that he will be faithful to Miura’s original works. The manga artist said that he would recall the details as much as possible and would not write the episodes that he doesn’t remember clearly.

Hakusensha’s Young Animal Editorial Department confirmed that Miura didn’t leave the draft behind, so it was impossible to create the manuscript. But the team will not deviate from Miura’s original works.

The production team will deliver the story resuming from the current Fantasia Arc/Elf Island Chapter. After six more chapters, the new arc will begin.

The upcoming Berserk manga will be credited as ‘Original work by Kentaro Miura, Manga by Studio Iga, Supervised by Kouji Mori.’

Berserk Is One Of The Best Selling Manga

Kentaro Miura’s Berserk series is regarded as one of the most influential dark fantasy works, with more than 50 million copies sold worldwide.

During the fall of 2021, Berserk’s manga alone was recorded as the fourth-best selling manga in the US, according to ICv2. In the most effective manga series for retailer bookshelves, Berserk was on the tenth list of ICv2 with the highest sales per volume.

Since beginning its serialization in 1989, Berserk has published 41 volumes with the anime adaptation and a trilogy of theatrical anime. The widely acclaimed manga has influenced several video games like Elden Ring, Devil May Cry, the Final Fantasy series, and more.
